Regenerative Agriculture

Here are some of the things we're doing at 3E that we believe can help make agriculture more sustainable. Supporting our local economy. We buy all of our supplies and suplimental feed that we haven't grown ourself locally. Buying locally cuts down on unnecessary shipping and transportation costs, not to mention emissions by burning less fuel. All of our beef is processed here in Arkansas by small packers. We also market and sell our beef locally, once again cutting down on shipping costs. We use rotational grazing to help preserve our pastures and soil and make more efficient use of forages. We are constantly renovating pastures and no till planting suplimental pastures with diverse plant species to help protect the soil and keep it healthier. Healthy soil reduces the need for chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizer. When managed properly, using carefully planned grazing our livestock and pastures are actually helping reverse the negative effects of climate change by removing carbon from the atmosphere and storing it back in the ground making the soil more productive. Keeping the ground covered with lush vegetation and the manure livestock leave behind helps restore soil organic matter. Adding just 1% organic matter to the soil can give it the ability to retain ten times as much carbon. That carbon would otherwise be released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and contribute to global warming. Organic matter also reduces erosion by helping the soil absorb and store moisture more efficiently. We like to let the cattle mow our pastures and harvest the suplimental crops themselves when possible. It saves us thousands of dollars it would take in expensive equipment to harvest the hay and grain. It also cuts down on fuel cost and the emission from running the equipment and shipping the feed. Healthy soil leads to Healthy Crops & Pastures > Healthy Livestock & Healthy Food > Healthy People If we are good stewards of the land and livestock we can do even better than sustainable agriculture. We can have regenerative agriculture and leave the land more productive and Earth more healthy than we found it for our children and future generations.
